Suicide Is it a solution to mental illness?

"One person still dies every 40 seconds from suicide," said WHO Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. Every death is a tragedy that affects family members, friends and creates a negative impact on society.

 Due to the spread of pandemic disease, everyone has been affected mentally. This lockdown has made most of our lives into a terrible state. As we all know, suicide is a word that has been spreading virally all over the media nowadays. During this crisis time, everyone is experiencing stress in different forms.

    According to the IPS(Indian Psychiatric Society)survey says that the suicide rate has been increased particularly during this lockdown period. One in five Indian has been affected mentally. It is not only due to the impact of deadly disease and also due to economic problems, domestic violence, stress and family conflicts, abuse, addiction to drugs, and isolation.

    A 20-year-old girl has hanged herself due to the emotional imbalance of separating away from the family.

And another incident I want to say is

    A famous sweet seller has committed suicide because of the anxiety due to the testing positive of the coronavirus disease.

    It is because of isolation and social distancing. Our minds have not been adapted to these new changes which all we are facing now. It is an alarming signal to take care of our mental health. It is a time to realize and to make ourselves stronger.

    It is not only about the stress, but it is also to check what we are going through, what are the mental pressures we are facing, and anxiety towards the current situation.

    Life is filled with pleasure and pains. We have to strengthen our mind to overcome the depression which is inside burning and to burst it out.

    We have to be open-minded at least to our closed ones and to express our feelings to them. We need to get rid of suffering and pain. It has to be treated and move on to the next phase of life. Suicide is not a solution to the problem of mental illness. It has to be treated with love and care.

    When this depression is not treated and cured at the right time, it is only leading to suicide. So check your loved ones what they are going through and try to console and make them overcome it.

Warning signs which have to be addressed:

  • One who is experiencing persistent severe distress(loneliness, isolation)
  • One who is agitated towards the current situation(economic problems)
  • One who has a feeling of helplessness and worthlessness(considering as a burden)
  • One who has extreme mood swings(sadness, anger, frustration)
  • One who has a sudden change of behavior(change of sleep and eating pattern)


To overcome stress:

  • Restart your old hobbies
  • Rewind your happiest moments which you have enjoyed.
  • Think of the positive things happened in your life
  • Engage yourself with busy schedules
  • Take more risks and face it boldly
  • Listen to Music Daily
  • Connect yourself with nature and start living
  • Don't Worry About Things You Can't Change
  • Spend quality time with your family and friends
  • Promise yourself about not making an attempt
